[창조도시] 싱가포르 -2. SINGAPORE’S CREATIVE SPACES
• Up to 1980s: colonial inheritances
– E.g. Victoria Theatre, National Museum
• 1990s: develop new and upgrade old cultural facilities
– E.g. Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the Singapore Art Museum, the Asian Civilisations Museum and the National Museum expansion
• 2000s: upgrade old facilities and increase heartland spaces
• ACSR recommendations to ensure that arts and culture is everywhere
– Recommends the use of public facilities and business spaces for arts and cultural activities
– Recommends building a downtown arts and cultural district
• Developing creative clusters
– Clustering creates positive externalities, culturally, socially and economically
– Conversion of existing properties into studio offices for creative workers
– E.g. Workloft@Chip Bee, Workloft@Wessex, The SOHO@Central
• National Arts Council’s Arts Housing Scheme
– Old disused warehouses and shophouses are converted in housing for art groups
– E.g. Waterloo Street, Chinatown, Little India and Telok Kurau
